A Joint Effort to Serve Those Who Serve Us
The spirit of giving was alive and well in Connellsville this past holiday season as the annual Christmas Eve Deliveries to First Responders and City Workers took place once again. Spearheaded by Lion Ted Kovall, who also serves as the President of the Youth Recreational Training Center (YRTC), this initiative ensured that those who serve our community every day were remembered and appreciated during the holiday season.
Through the dedicated efforts of many individuals and organizations—including the Connellsville Lions Club, businesses, and community members—this year's effort resulted in an incredible $5,669.78 worth of food, gift cards, and supplies being collected and distributed.
Spreading Holiday Cheer with Thoughtful Giving
This project was made possible through a combination of purchased items ($4,099.78) and generous donations ($1,570). The funds helped provide:
- Delicious meals: Fresh fruit boxes, breakfast trays, sandwich trays, veggie trays, and hot drinks to keep first responders fueled throughout the holiday.
- Essential supplies: Bottled water, coffee, peanut butter, jelly, and snacks to support teams working long hours.
- Gift cards: A total of 100 gas gift cards, 381 restaurant gift cards, 21 Martin’s grocery gift cards, and 18/$25 gift cards for chiefs were distributed to help support our local first responders.
Who Benefited from These Efforts?
This initiative directly supported Connellsville’s first responders and city workers, ensuring they felt the community’s appreciation during the holiday season. Some of the key recipients included:
🚒 Volunteer Fire Departments (VFDs) in New Haven, South Connellsville, Connellsville Township, Morrell, and Bullskin—receiving fuel cards and restaurant gift cards.
🚓 Connellsville Police Department—gifted 16 Martin’s grocery gift cards and 16 Kickstand restaurant gift cards to support officers on duty.
🚑 Fayette EMS—provided with 80 local restaurant gift cards to keep their team energized while responding to emergencies.
🏗️ City Maintenance & Workers—given Martin’s and local restaurant gift cards in recognition of their hard work keeping Connellsville running smoothly.
Community Effort Makes It Possible
The success of this initiative would not have been possible without the generosity of local businesses, banks, churches, and service organizations. The Connellsville Lions Club is proud to have played a role in this effort and commends Lion Ted Kovall for his continued dedication to making a difference in the community.
As Lions, our mission is service, and there is no better way to fulfill that mission than by giving back to those who give so much to us. We look forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come!
